Queensland pharmacies now offer a range of consultations with specially trained pharmacists. From chronic condition support to wellbeing services and hormonal contraception, get professional healthcare quickly, conveniently, and close to home.

Initial Pharmacist Consultation Between 10 to 20 minutes
Please note: Consultation times and fees are subject to the pharmacist's assessment of your condition. If the consultation takes longer than initially estimated, the fees may be adjusted accordingly.

Wellbeing services
Hormonal contraception resupply
States: NSW/ACT • VIC • SA • TAS • WA
Selected pharmacies can now provide eligible patients with a contraceptive pill resupply consultation, making it easier to access their regular medication without visiting a GP for a new prescription first.
A specially trained pharmacist will review your suitability and, if appropriate, provide a resupply of approved oral contraceptive pills.
If you’ve had a prescription for the pill within the last 2 years, you may be eligible for this service.
Please note that not all pill brands or contraceptive options are available.
Management for a bacterial skin infection, Also known as school sores, causing red and itchy sores on the skin.
Available in: QLD & NSW Age criteria: 2 years and older Recommended consultation length: Initial
Shingles (herpes zoster)
Treatment for a skin rash characterised by pain and blistering sores which appear on one side of the body or face.
Available in: QLD & NSW Age criteria: 18 years and older Recommended consultation length: Initial
Ear infections (swimmers ear)
Management of inflammation of the outer ear canal, often associated with pain and discomfort.

Ear infections (middle ear infection)
Treatment for middle ear infection, typically causing ear pain and fever.

Chronic disease management - QLD only
Improved Asthma Symptom Program
Management plan to better control and alleviate asthma symptoms.

Cardiovascular Disease Risk Reduction Program (for type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia and hypertension)
Comprehensive approach to reduce cardiovascular risk factors associated with diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Monitoring Program
Management plan and support for progressive lung disease.

What services can I access at participating pharmacies?
Participating pharmacies can provide a range of services including health screenings, treatment of everyday health concerns, chronic disease management, and wellbeing programs.
Do I need an appointment to access these services?
While some services such as chronic disease management and health assessments may require an appointment, we may offer walk-in services for the treatment of everyday health concerns and other consultations (subject to availability).

How can pharmacists help manage my chronic condition such as asthma, COPD or cardiovascular disease?
Our pharmacists will work with you to develop a personalised care plan that may include medication management, lifestyle advice, and regular health check-ups.
We also collaborate with your GP and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring a list of medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter medications and supplements.
If you have any recent test results, bring those as well. Other information relevant to your health and presenting issues may also be useful.

How can I book an appointment?
You can book an appointment online through our website, by calling your participating pharmacy, or by visiting in person. We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your needs.

Will the pharmacist give me a prescription for my medicine?
In Queensland, Pharmacists who have undertaken additional training are authorised to prescribe medications for a specific range of health concerns.
Pharmacists cannot prescribe some medications including opiates, benzodiazepines or medications used for mental health conditions such as anti-depressants or stimulants.
In New South Wales, pharmacists are not authorised to issue prescriptions. If appropriate for your condition, the pharmacist can instead supply the required medication directly to treat your symptoms.

Is there a cost for these services?
Patients are responsible for all expenses related to these services, including a consultation fee and any additional service costs.
Prescriptions provided for these services are non-PBS (private prescriptions), which are not covered under concession co-pay.
The consultation duration, which influences the fee, depends on the type and complexity of the treatment.
How do I know if I’m eligible for a service?
Eligibility varies depending on the health condition or presenting symptoms. For example, some conditions may have age or health restrictions.
Our pharmacists will assess your health needs and advise on the best course of action during your consultation.
Are these services available in other states or locations?
At this stage these services are only available in Queensland and New South Wales, and the number of pharmacies offering services will continue to expand as more pharmacists become qualified.
*Pharmacists must undertake specific post-graduate clinical and prescribing training and be authorised by Queensland Health and New South Wales Health. Eligibility applies. Consultation fees apply and are not subsidised by Medicare. Additional costs may apply for consumables used or provided, required investigations such as pathology and/or point of care testing. All medicines provided will be charged at the private prescription cost and will not count towards the PBS safety net.
